Storage and shelf life
These jars hold 30 to 60 pairs sitting in serum, and they are opened repeatedly with fingers. Two habits protect them: use the little spatula that comes in the lid rather than your hand, and close the jar promptly so the top layer does not dry out. Keep it in the fridge, which helps both the effect and the preservation. Once opened, most jars carry a period-after-opening symbol — a small tub icon with a figure like 6M or 12M — and it is worth respecting on a product you press against the skin under your eyes. If the gel has gone tacky, discolored or smells different, that jar is finished regardless of the date.
When the premium is worth paying
A gold patch can be the right purchase, just not for the reason on the box:
- As a gift or an occasion product. Presentation is a real part of what these are for.
- When the formula behind the gold is genuinely good. Some premium gold patches are excellent formulations that happen to be gold-colored. Judge the ingredient list, not the metal.
- When the gel quality is better. Thicker hydrogel that grips the contour and does not slide off after five minutes is a real advantage, and it does correlate loosely with price.
When it is not worth paying: if you are buying gold expecting collagen stimulation or a lasting change to dark circles. Neither happens. What changes dark circles depends on which kind you have — vascular, pigmented or structural — and patches only meaningfully address the first, and only briefly: types of dark circles.
Getting the most out of any patch
- Store the jar in the fridge. The cold does at least as much as the ingredients.
- Apply to clean, dry skin — residual oil or makeup stops contact.
- Place the thicker end toward the inner corner and press gently along the whole edge.
- Leave 15–30 minutes. Longer is not better; once a patch dries out it starts pulling moisture back.
- Pat in the remaining serum rather than wiping it off, and seal with your usual moisturizer.
The full method, including what to do with the leftover serum in the jar, is in how to use hydrogel eye patches properly. If you need a result for a specific evening, the timed routine is in the 30-minute under-eye prep.
